Paleo Diet – What is it?
The Paleo diet is based upon the hunter-gather approach to eating of cavemen. It is not too far removed from the Dash Diet Recipes already talked about on other pages.
- Higher protein intake
- Lower Carbohydrate intake
- Higher fibre intake
- Moderate to high fat intake (has to be the right type of fat, see below)
- Higher potassium and Lower sodium intake
- Higher intake of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and plant phytochemicals
What to Eat
- Grass produced meats
- Fish and seafood
- Fresh fruits and vegetables
- Nuts and seeds
- Healthy oils such as olive, flaxseed, walnut, macadamia, avocado and coconut
What NOT to Eat
- Cereal grains
- Legumes including peanuts
- Refined sugar
- Processed foods
- Refined oils and fats (those not listed above)
